Technical Specialist, Data Engineering #2

Salary: $78,254 – $97,000 annually based on experience

As a Technical Specialist reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Engineering, you are strong in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, with a specific focus on present and emerging data technology. You’re an expert in core ETL/ELT concepts, cloud-based data management, Master Data Management and data analytics & visualization who has an extensive background with ADT / Health Information Systems. You are a SQL expert in several database management systems, and you rely on your seasoned technical abilities as well as your creativity to produce stunning data models and visualizations.

When it comes to Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, you are ahead of the pack as you look to emerging cloud BI technology and NoSQL databases to supplement or replace on-prem or traditional data warehouse solutions, often doing so with agile projects. To round off your skills, you are a master in reading the stories the data is telling you and visually sharing those stories with your stakeholders at all levels of the enterprise in meaningful ways. Your daily impact will include:

 

  • Creating / maintaining data models, processes and ETL packages to feed data repositories
  • Working with executive level stakeholders on high visibility, real-time, responsive data visualizations used throughout the enterprise
  • Augmenting existing business data sharing processes and capabilities with modern tools and methodologies
  • Creating a road-map for feeding data warehouse data into data lake or cloud DW technologies
  • Contributing to a multi-million dollar Health Information System evolution project
  • Migrating on-prem reporting systems into present day cloud solutions
  • Leading the organization in setting standards for the visualization of descriptive and predictive analytics data
  • Writing advanced / complex SQL queries and scripts to pool data sources
  • Providing tuning expertise to technical business report creators
  • Developing efficient PL/SQL packages and SQL Server stored procedures
  • Pulling data from REST API’s including HL7-FHIR / XML / JSON
  • ELT solutions in cloud-based / data lake data storage technologies
  • Developing new ways to more efficiently store and move data across the major hospitals of downtown Toronto
  • Microsoft SharePoint / embedded application development with Power BI reports and APIs
  • Positively disrupting how business decisions are made by re-developing business reports into meaningful, visual formats in current BI platforms
  • Empowering the business to create, maintain and share Business Intelligence, including the underlying data sets
  • Ensuring data can be fluidly and securely shared across the enterprise
  • Fulfilling Enterprise Data Warehouse maintenance responsibilities including data requests
  • Administering present-day BI tools and migrating data sets into newer technologies
  • Project and cross-team collaborative responsibilities not explicitly listed above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of (Computer) Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related major required
  • 5 years of extensive ETL/ELT building and monitoring experience for data warehouses and/or data lakes required
  • Databases: Proficiency in Oracle 12c/18c , SQL Server 2016/2019, Postgres
  • 5 years of Descriptive Analytics reporting through Business Intelligence tools required
  • 5 years experience in building data cubes, slicing/dicing data, and access controls to share data sets between individual and roles required
  • MSBI solutions experience including Microsoft Power BI, SSRS / SSIS , proficiency in DAX programming required
  • Masterful SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, shell scripting and programming skills
  • Other Business Intelligence tools: IBM Cognos required
  • Figure-it-out mentality with a positive, team-oriented attitude; a long history of charismatic self-starting and positive disruption
  • Proven ability to adapt priorities in a complex, fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Superior verbal, written communication and presentation skills to disseminate information to all business areas and levels of leadership
  • A history of working on agile / devOps teams
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Data Management experience with multiple MDM solutions / architectures preferred
  • Experience in Healthcare Information Systems strongly preferred
  • Additional Databases: Couch DB
  • Advanced expertise with Microsoft Excel, pivot tables, formulas, functions
  • Microsoft Azure experience, including Azure Data Factory preferred
  • Proficiency in Azure Embedded applications development, embedding Power BI preferred
  • Big Data technology and NoSQL database experience preferred
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) working environment
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) designation(s): Data Management and Analytics (BI Development, BI Reporting or Data Engineering with Azure)
  • Oracle Certified Professional designation(s): PL/SQL Developer, Cloud
  • Microsoft DAX and and/or MSBI/Power BI training transcript
  • Fundamental Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence training
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification
  • Experience with Healthcare Information System migrations in Ontario an asset
  • HL7 / FHIR training transcript
