The Toronto Rehab Research Institute is the world’s leading rehabilitation research centre. We integrate innovative patient care, ground-breaking research, and diverse education to advance the science of rehabilitation. At Toronto Rehab, the Dementia Isolation Toolkit Working Group is working to improve the care of people living in long-term care during the pandemic by creating tools to guide the isolation and care-planning for dementia patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.
As a Technical Analyst I, you will work design, build, test, and implement a two-way video monitoring and communication system. This system will make use of commercially available software and hardware, and will be designed to the requirements of the end users, namely LTC staff, residents and family. As part of this project you will have the opportunity to get feedback from end users, research existing solutions and their barriers, and pilot your designs in a dementia care setting. Duties include: working closely with end users to gather feedback and translate user requirements into a design; recommending, designing, documenting and implementing a video streaming technology system for use in long-term care; working closely with team members and end users to resolve issues raised by testing throughout the development cycle; providing technical support through the system evaluation period and monitor system performance remotely; researching and preparing notes, status reports, and technical documentation, to be used both by technical and non-technical users; designing and implementing any required security systems to ensure the platform remains secure and maintains a high availability.
- At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- At minimum 1 year related experience
- Knowledge of Java programming languages to write an application for an Android device
- Strong technical knowledge of existing audio and video streaming and communication technologies
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of system design, network architecture, and security protocols
- Capable of designing and executing a project
- Experience in information security
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organized and able to work independently
- Ability to communicate with users to determine system requirements
- Ability to plan an accurate project timeline, and hit milestones accordingly
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
