SPECIAL CARE WORKER/RESIDENT CARE AIDE-MEDICAL

Job Description

A special care worker assists in the provision of comfort and wellbeing of each resident through care and compassion working under the supervision of a charge nurse. (S)He follows the Abuse/Neglect policy of the organization; brushes hair, assist with make-up, shaving of resident; maintain safe and clean environment; monitors and reports on the physical status of resident to “Charge Nurse”; maintain familiarity with the policy changes through posted notices and meetings; maintain confidentiality of all residents; serves meals and assist in feeding as necessary; exhibit courtesy to all residents and staff.

Job Requirements

1. Residents needs and buzzers are priorities of all Special Care Workers
2. Awaken residents, help resident  on a.m. care list, take resident to dining room, lounges, and remove trays from room to kitchen. collect garbage bags from all room and pads
3. Do baths according to bath list, cut nails as required, brush hair, collect laundry from resident; deliver trays approved by nurse to those that are sick; make beds until after breakfast
4. Ascertain resident check sheets are completed; follow toileting program as per care plan
5. Complete Resident Care Worker check sheets for shift
6. Hand over shift report to ascertain that shift nurse is aware of any concerns to be conveyed to next shift
7. Follow “PSW Report to Nurse” form to determine what MUST be reported to Nurse on each shift even if it may have been reported previously
8. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
