Senior Site Superintendent

As Senior Site Superintendent, you are leader who plays an influential role in project success. In this role, you will be a leader, coach, negotiator, and mediator. You will be managing daily on-site activity of a project, or multiple job sites to ensure projects are constructed in close conformity to plans and specifications, while ensuring quality, safety, and successful project delivery.

As a forward-thinking problem solver, you will plan, manage, supervise, and coordinate site work. You will effectively plan and carry out the work based on the project’s size, scope, and challenges, in conjunction with the Project Manager and project team. Site work includes, but is not limited to, the construction of foundations, structure, shell, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, interior rough-in, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Projects may range from ground up projects valued at $10M to
$20M, to commercial interior tenant fit out projects, smaller scale shell and core projects, and luxury residential.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively plan and maintain out the project schedule to achieve milestones and ensure that the work performed is consistent with the drawings, specifications, and contract.
  • Oversee, manage, and document all day-to-day job site activities.
  • Implement and enforce COR® Program and BLT Health and Safety policies on project sites in conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer.
  • Control site management, project quality, and costs by enforcing the highest level of construction quality and workmanship with a “measure twice, cut once” approach.
  • Ability to lead in high pressure situations.
  • Work with the Project Manager to identify and resolve issues and revisions in a timely manner, to help facilitate the most cost effective and schedule neutral solution.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings and Subcontractor meetings, and the site close-out meeting. The Senior Site Superintendent will participate in project turnover, mobilization, and weekly coordination meetings in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Maintain clear and documented communication with all parties
  • Provide clear and accurate direction for efficient and proper construction sequence of site work.
  • Demonstrate strong ability to independently trouble-shoot issues and find cost effective but good construction practice solutions.
  • Establish good working relationships with Clients, Consultants, Trades, Municipal Officials and BLT team members.
  • Supervise, manage, and mentor the up-and-coming generation of the BLT field team assigned to the project.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience as Site Superintendent/Site Supervisor, with a focus on ground up construction.
  • Strong English language communication skills (written, oral, and conflict resolution skills).
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record, reliable vehicle, and the ability to travel.
  • Evidence of a “safety first” attitude
  • Demonstrate strong comprehension of construction and possess thorough knowledge of building codes, by-laws, health requirements, etc.

  • Salary: Competetive Salary Depending on Experience
  • Location: Toronto, Ontario
  • Reports to: Directors of Construction
  • Hours of Work: In general, this is a Monday to Friday position. Each project will have special time commitments and extended work hours to meet deadlines. Nights and weekends may be required to satisfy job and schedule requirements.
  • Travel: Will be required for this role
