The Living Biobank at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is a collaborative between PM Researchers and UHN Biospecimen Core to establish a central repository and provide services for the use of patient-Derived tumor organoid (PDO) and Xenograft (PDX) models.

The applicant will be responsible for growing and characterization of organoid cultures derived from cancer patient tissues at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Living Biobank Facility.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences or related field, and or M.Sc. preferred
  • At minimum, six (6) years of experience in biomedical laboratory research required
  • Strong background and working experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and microscopy techniques is required
  • Over five (5) years of experience in 2D cell culture, 3D culturing methods or stem cell research methodologies is expected
  • Knowledge in bioinformatics and animal work is an asset
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving abilities
  • Effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present scientific findings
  • Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team

Key Duties:

The applicant will develop and characterize organoid cultures from primary patient tissue in the Princess Margaret Living Biobank Facility.

  • Initiating organoid cultures using already established protocols
  • Developing novel organoid culturing methods
  • Conducting data analysis and preparing scientific reports
  • Presenting research to other members of the research team
  • Preparing samples for histology analysis
  • Preparing samples for genomic analysis
  • Performing mycoplasma testing of organoid/cell cultures
  • Performing growth analysis and drug screening of organoid/cell cultures
  • Performing animal work

The applicant may also be expected to participate in data analysis including bioinformatics and biostatistics. At all times, the individual is expected to support the overall mission of the facility.
