The Research Strategy Development Specialist I is an integral member of the Strategic Research Initiatives Development (StRIDe) team whose mandate is to foster the growth of the University Health Network (UHN) research enterprise through support and implementation of its ongoing strategic priorities.

Primary responsibilities include supporting the development of institutional level grants and other institutional-level proposals, and scientific and institutional reporting related to the goals and activities of the research institutes of UHN.

Working with the Manager and other Research Strategy Development team members, investigators, research leadership and staff, the Specialist I will plan, develop, write and edit scientific proposals for research funding and gather information on and analyze data relating to all aspects of UHN research as well as potential research funders and their programs; and organize and maintain and disseminate that information. In addition, as an integral member of the StRIDe team, the Specialist will be involved in developing other scientific transfer materials for both internal and external audiences to increase knowledge of, collaboration with, and investment in the UHN research enterprise. This includes materials in print, electronic and other media, and contributing to various internal and external research reporting projects as required.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with research experience who want to gain more experience in developing, drafting, editing and disseminating scientific documents for different audiences.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, a MSc in a Science or health science related discipline or recognized equivalent; Biomedical Sciences preferred
  • Experience in academic research laboratories required
  • Experience in writing and editing of scientific documents (research proposals, manuscripts, etc.) desirable
  • Experience in developing grant proposals desirable
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with the ability to multi-task
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client-service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills working with research personnel and administration
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Computer literate (word processing, spreadsheet, browser skills essential; knowledge of HTML)
  • Proficiency in using graphics software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere) desirable
  • Experience or interest in photography, lighting techniques and graphic design
