Status: Permanent Part-time (2 positions), Casual (1 position)

As an integral member of Laboratory team, the phlebotomist performs a variety of support functions to include: Verify test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log and notify unit personnel if discrepancies arise; use the electronic system to generate barcode labels, verify patient identification, procure blood samples using aseptic technique following all established procedures and, observe all IPAC isolation procedures. Will maintain specimen integrity by following procedures as outlined. Package and delver samples to testing lab or prepare for pick up. Responsibility include maintaining inventory and supply control ;performing any other duties related to specimen procurement and observing and understanding Hospital and department policies and procedures; adhering to Hospital and department mission and Value statement while maintaining and protecting patient confidentiality; performing cross-functional duties as assigned or requested performing other duties related to and consistent with job classification as required. Will be required to work at TRI Site as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At minimum, completion of Grade 12 with a Phlebotomy Certification and or Laboratory Technician, OR recognized equivalent required
- Minimum one (1) year of practical or related experience in phlebotomy
- Registration with the college of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) and or Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO), preferred
- Knowledge of Transport of dangerous goods
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of appropriate behavior required working successfully in a diverse work group
