Reporting to the Director, Academic Programs (DAP), the Manager, Learning Innovation (MLI) provides strategic and operations leadership to advance the School’s mission and maximize innovation and quality in the design, development and renewal of all SCS courses and certificate programs. The (MLI) guides the direction of pedagogically and andragogically sound design of courses, programs and use of learning technologies.
Key responsibilities include:
Learning Innovation and Program Development: The MLI develops strategic and tactical plans for new program design, development and the refinement/renewal of existing programs. The MLI leads in the development and implementation of SCS digital learning initiatives and delivery of online learning support services to instructors and learners.
Operations: The MLI provides leadership and full management to the Learning Innovation Group; setting priorities, managing workflow, and ensuring active collaboration and alignment with SCS Academic Programs while ensuring cost-recovery goals for development / innovation investment are met.
Instructor Professional Development Strategy and Programming: The MLI, in consultation with the Academic team leads program strategy and oversees the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development programs for the School’s 700+ contract Instructors and staff in support of effective teaching and learning, and efficient use of technology for course development, delivery and evaluation. The MLI has shared responsibility for the management of strategic partnerships between the School, other University departments, professional associations, contractors and various stakeholders, where appropriate and aligned.
EDUCATION:
Masters level degree (MEd) in learning technologies and instructional design with demonstrated mastery of andragogy and curriculum development or comparable Masters level degree in another discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of seven (5) years progressively responsible experience in a global, entrepreneurial, education environment. Demonstrated superior performance / experience in adult education with an emphasis on academic quality and applications of technology to learning and instruction (including online / digital learning). Significant experience overseeing design, development, implementation and evaluation of competency-based curriculum development and programming. Demonstrated expertise in strategy development, recommending actions and technologies for adoption, and building consensus among various stakeholders to advance strategic priorities. Demonstrated record of success managing complex, concurrent projects where technology is a key component. Demonstrated experience in financial and human resources management.
SKILLS:
Excellent understanding of project management principles. Excellent computer skills and experience with a variety of online learning delivery systems / platforms and social / communications technologies. Highly developed relationship, negotiation and consensus-building skills. Highly developed communication skills: written, verbal, presentation and facilitation.
OTHER:
Superior knowledge of and commitment to adult education and the needs of adult learners. Extensive knowledge of online learning technologies and practices; emerging and innovative social and communications technologies, particularly as applied to online learning as a strategic priority in post-secondary continuing education. Highly effective business acumen. Highly proactive, innovative and results oriented. Demonstrated superior expertise and performance in the identification of new business growth opportunities in a global arena. An educator and strong leader with excellent judgement and decision-making abilities. Ability to handle the demands and stress of an aggressive and highly competitive business environment. Superior ability to juggle priorities, organize and schedule work and lead a team.
