Reporting to the Vice Dean, Education, the Manager, Academic Administrative Services provides leadership and strategic oversight to the mandate and operations of the academic administrative team. They ensure high-quality support for a broad range of portfolios related to the Vice Dean, Education, the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Education and the Associate Dean, Graduate Education. The unique multi-disciplinary and clinical environment of the Faculty of Dentistry poses distinct educational, human resource, operational and administrative challenges

The incumbent provides strategic advice to a diverse and complex range of activities spanning administrative, human resources and financial functions as they relate to the Faculty’s strategic and academic plan. The Manager is an essential resource in managing the team and the academic support operations by contributing to the development and successful implementation of strategic priorities, processes and program-specific objectives. The incumbent works closely with senior leadership and senior academic administrators to assist in developing and implementing short and long-term strategic plans and priorities in connection with the academic mandate of the Faculty and is the lead of projects on academic administrative support.

The Manager oversees a team of high-caliber administrative staff that support the activities of undergraduate and graduate programs in 10 different specialty areas. As a leader/mentor, the incumbent assumes responsibility for developmental, human resource and workflow/workload issues including dispute resolution and compliance with collective agreements. They actively participate in senior level decisions and will be required to work in collaboration with the Course Directors, Graduate Specialty Program Directors, the Vice Dean, Education, Associate Deans, Clinical Management, Human Resources and the Registrar.



University degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of five years of relevant administration experience, including management experience, preferably in a unionized environment; experience working in an education setting or healthcare/clinical environment is preferable. Demonstrated knowledge of program support and experience with developing and implementing administrative and business processes is required. Additional knowledge of strategic planning, change management and academic programs is preferred.

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. The ability to motivate staff to work collaboratively toward the goals of the office. Demonstrated strategic, analytical, organization and planning skills. Must be able to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks and responsibilities. Superior presentation, oral and written communication skills. Sound judgment. Detail-oriented and responsive. Advanced computer skills including proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Project management skills required.


Knowledge of academic program support and related processes. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders.

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.
