Basic Function: Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor, this rotating shift position is responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, repair and installation of HVACR equipment, pumps & motors, site and exhibit lighting, emergency lighting, pneumatic/hydraulic doors, and generators. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the approved Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities:

Duties include, but not restricted to the inspection, operation, preventive maintenance, service, installation & repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, backup generators, pumps, motors, fans, misc equipment and all associated components, accessories, controls and operating systems.

Maintain lighting requirements including emergency lights, exhibit, greenhouse, and tank lighting.

Calibrating of electrical and pneumatic controls, troubleshooting HVACR systems and associated components.

Installation of new equipment as required.

Other duties as allocated by supervisor or their designate.

Qualifications:

Must have a valid Gas Technician-1 certification valid in the Province of Ontario. Consideration will be given to applicants with a Gas Technician 2 license and documented hours accumulated towards the Gas Technician 1 requirement. Proof of applicable work experience will be requested.

Preference will be given to those who also possess a valid Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Mechanics certification, and/or Electrician certification, and/or Millwright certification, and/or Class IV Stationary Engineer’s certification. (All certifications must be current and valid in the Province of Ontario).

Good knowledge of burners, air handling & boiler systems, electronics and electricity is required.

Knowledge and previous experience in BMS controls and commercial equipment is required.

Must be able to read schematic and electrical plans.

Must be able to read and utilize technical manuals.

Must be knowledgeable in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.

Must have a working knowledge of codes and regulations affecting their work.

Must be able to withstand varying climatic conditions both indoors and outdoors.

Must possess a valid G Class Ontario Driver’s license in good standing.

Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the job including heights.

Must be able and willing to work rotating shifts, weekends and Holidays.

Must be able to work in a team environment and also with minimum supervision
