The position

The HIS Application Analyst will report into a HIS Senior Application Manager, in coordination with an Application Team Lead. We are looking for highly motivated and experienced individuals, who will be accountable to configure assigned clinical application(s) in the HIS, to support clinical workflows in your respective application area (Inpatient, Outpatient/Ambulatory, Ancillary/Specialty, Revenue & Access). Using your expertise, the HIS Application Analyst will serve as the connection between end users’ clinical needs and the larger application build team to ensure the clinical and/or functional needs of the application are met. You will work closely with your team to build a platform for one the new clinical applications UHN is adopting. You will be responsible to coordinate all issues that arise during the project for your assigned application(s).

Here’s what you get to do

  • Guide workflow design, build and test the system, and analyze other technical issues associated with the applicable software;
  • Identify issues that arise in your assigned application area as well as issues that impact other application teams, and working to resolve them;
  • Work as part of a team, assisting other team members with build and other tasks as needed to keep deliverables on schedule;
  • Perform quality checks on your own work, and collaborate with colleagues on your team for peer-to-peer quality reviews as need;
  • Work with representatives, UHN’s community and end users to ensure the system meets UHN’s needs in regards to the project deliverables and timeline;
  • Identify and implement requested changes to the system;
  • Maintain regular communication with vendor representatives, including participating in weekly project team meetings discuss the status of deliverables, shared issues, end-user concerns, budget, and upcoming milestones;
  • Develop an understanding of UHN’s operational needs to set the direction for workflows by attending site visits and other integrated sessions;
  • Participate in readiness, training and working with end users;
  • Collaborate with technical colleagues to support device deployment and technical dress rehearsal from an application perspective;
  • Troubleshoot problems and questions;
  • Review the status of projects and issues on an ongoing basis with leadership;
  • Act as the secondary support contact for the application’s end users.

Here’s what you need to have

  • Subject matter expertise in the workflows, policies and procedures and/or current information systems of your assigned application/application area;
  • Minimum 3-years of previous hospital experience in a team environment is preferred;
  • Experience in large IT clinical transformation in a healthcare setting is an asset;
  • Undergraduate Degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Industrial Engineering, Business, or health-related field, or equivalent, is preferred;
  • Point-of care clinical experience is an asset;
  • Knowledge or experiences in Project Management is an asset;
  • Experience leading/managing a small to medium team is an asset;
  • Certification (PMP, Lean/Six-Sigma, ITIL, IIBA, Change Management) is an asset.

  • Ability and willingness to see things in an open-minded way and examine an idea or concept from as many angles as possible;
  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure that they are completed in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner;
  • Ability and willingness to recognize assignments or tasks that need to be completed, to seek out additional assignments or tasks, and to help others;
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely with project leadership and other stakeholders;
  • Ability to be organized with a strong work ethic;
  • Ability to seek, logically examine, and interpret information from different sources to determine a problem’s cause and developing a course of action to resolve the problem and to prevent its recurrence;
  • Ability to persevere in difficult situations, overcome obstacles, and reach high levels of performance when faced with stressful work situations and time pressures.

Training and certification

Completion of assigned vendor training and certification achievement in vendor application is required.

HIS Project Team positions are currently being recruited, with an aim for the HIS Project to be approved by fall/winter of 2020. Job offers will be subject to final UHN Board approval and contracting with the Top-Rated Proponent HIS vendor.
