Reporting to the Design Director -Flynn Facades, the Drafting Manager’s function is to ensure that all projects which have been awarded to Flynn/NFL are drawn, taken off and released on the basis of standard detailing, methodology, and approved designs which have been forwarded to drafting through our design team.
    • A Day In The Life

 

    • Liaising and coordinating with our internal Master Scheduler ensuring scheduling and resources are up to date and on track.
    • Managing and coordinating all drafting resources Internally / Externally
    • Ability to recognize, solve Unitized and Stick Curtain wall/Window detailing issues. Understanding of Unitized curtain wall construction methods a must.
    • Read and understand Specifications, Architectural, and Structural Drawings as they relate to Unitized / Stick Curtain Wall construction.
    • Foresee/solve and address all curtain wall issues as they arise with project Job Captains
    • Resolve outstanding drawing issues and pursue contract clarifications as required.
    • Ability to read, understand and review Specifications providing input for potential risks.
    • Organize and schedule projects and draftspersons
    • Resolve outstanding drawing issues and pursue contract clarifications as required.
    • Ability to supervise and provide constructive criticism and input to Draftsperson(s)
    • Ability to Plan and execute Curtain Wall/Window shop and fabrication drawings with input from the design team a must.
    • Ability to review specifications and ensure all aspects of the project have been addressed and conveyed into the final shop drawing package.
    • Ability to coach and mentor Draftsperson(s)
    • Correspond and plan the execution of projects with Estimating, Project Manager(s) , and the Design/Construction teams.
    • Understand all aspects of Unitized Curtain wall building construction and sequencing
    • Assisting Estimating providing hours required to complete a project
    • Ensuring what has been estimated is included within the shop drawings i.e. scope (input from the Project Manager when needed).
    • Ensuring what has been drawn in the shop drawings has been engineered and meets structural requirements.
    • Identifying and ensuring that what has been drawn meets all performance criteria. i.e. air seal tie ins, backpans, terminations, etc…
    • Ensuring what has been drawn, taken-off and released fulfills all requirements of the Contract Documents.
    • Reviewing shop drawings with Job Captains and Project Manager prior to submittal.
    • Working with approved standard product details and approved designs. When working with these details, drafting is required to identify, produce/ develop project specific details for non-typical conditions. They may include details such as transitions, soffits, copings, anchors, etc.
    • Consult with the design team for new shapes if required, materials, standard parts, PM’s, production and drafting meet prior to releasing drawings ensuring that what has been drawn fulfills all aspects of the project keeping in mind, cost, production, workability along with what has been noted above.
    • Liaising with Internal and External customers and resources

 

    • What We Are Seeking

 

    • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the Unitized Curtain wall industry
    • Ability to Manage, coach and instruct a Drafting team for the successful completion of all tasks for any given project.
    • Proficiency with the following programs: AutoCAD 2D and 3D modeling; Inventor / Revit / BIM modeling experience
    • Must be Self-motivated, well organized and detail oriented
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritizing work to meet critical deadlines
    • Must have a good understanding of Building Science related topics and issues as they relate to Curtain Wall and Building Envelope design.
    • Proven experience in the Curtain Wall industry including the execution of shop/fabrication drawings from start to finish
    • Basic understanding of industry codes
    • Proven project and team leader
    • Effective written and oral skills
    • Strong PC skills in MS Office, AutoDesk
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
