The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (the Partnership) is the steward of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control. It works to drive measurable change for all Canadians affected by cancer and contribute to a future where fewer people get cancer, more people survive cancer and those living with the disease have a better quality of life.
The Research & Innovation Team, part of the Cancer Systems, Performance and Innovation Division, has an immediate need for a Coordinator, Research & Innovation. This position is key to the promotion of cancer research and drives the adoption of innovative approaches to cancer care across Canada.
Our team acts as a thought partner for the organization, building awareness and understanding of how innovations and evidence can be embedded in cancer policy. We work across functions (policy, analysis, communications) and communities (government, charities, health systems, hospitals, patient groups) to develop novel policy solutions. This includes supporting our Executive Leadership on strategic policy development and identifying emerging priorities for the organization.
The Coordinator ensures that our team runs efficiently and effectively. This role supports the team’s efforts to engage with research and innovation communities and gather evidence from a broad range of sources. It involves three main areas of responsibility:
- Team and portfolio management – including responsibility for CRM management, support for regular status reporting, management of team correspondence
- Evidence tracking and gathering – including compiling domestic and international evidence, tracking of internal knowledge products and monitoring the use of evidence
- Event support – including work to coordinate the bi-annual Canadian Cancer Research Conference, logistical support for events, material preparation and event minuting
This role is well suited to an organized individual, with strong attention to detail, who is passionate about effective team and portfolio management. In the most successful coordinators, this combines with a proactive attitude to identify needs across the team and figure out how to solve them. Since a lot of the duties involve gathering information from others, interpersonal skills and relationship building are crucial. You will be comfortable working across the team and the broader organization to ensure our work is documented, aligned, and reported appropriately.
Our team also organizes external meetings and events, so you will be familiar engaging confidently with external stakeholders at a variety of levels of seniority. Given the project-based nature of our team, this role also requires a degree of adaptability and the ability to work in different ways depending on the need. Finally, since new ideas often appear outside our organization, you should be curious to learn more about cancer research and comfortable undertaking evidence gathering.
We are looking for a forward-thinking individual who brings relevant experience and who will identify and take advantage of opportunities to grow. The education and qualifications listed in the job description are indicative of the sort of qualities that will help applicants be successful in this role. However, applicants are encouraged to apply even if they can only evidence some of the attributes listed.
Internally, we value a flexible, inclusive culture that prioritizes diversity of thought and experience whilst inviting constructive challenge. We actively seek to widen our perspectives, networks and capabilities. We value flexible working conditions and support this at all levels of our team
The Partnership strives to achieve an inclusive culture that is rich in diverse representation and ideas. Through our work, we seek to promote equity and justice. We actively seek to widen our perspectives, networks, and capabilities. We offer a competitive salary, benefit package and flexible working conditions.
