Salary Range: Start rate: $29.34/hr. 3 month rate: $31.30/hr. 6 month rate: $32.60/hr.
Basic Function: Reporting to the Supervisor, Transit/Fleet, this position is required, under close supervision,
to repair, paint and maintain motorized vehicles at the Toronto Zoo and to provide maintenance to the Transit
area. This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
Preparing vehicles for painting.
Using and maintaining hand power tools and equipment.
Removing, replacing trim, mechanical components and automotive glass.
Welding, brazing and soldering.
Repairing automotive & golf cart bodies.
Refitting, replacing electrical components and heating and cooling systems.
Straightening and aligning frames and unibody assemblies.
Aligning steering and suspension components.
Diagnosing damage and appraising repair costs.
Performing road tests.
Maintaining shop and surrounding areas.
Preparing detailed maintenance reports.
Employee shall complete daily inspections of Toronto Zoo rides and complete minor repairs under the direction
of the Ride Mechanic.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must posess an Auto Body and Damage Repairer Certificate (310B) valid in the Province of Ontario.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience as an automotive painter.
Must be able to perform metal fabrication for repairs and fabrication of equipment required by the Zoo.
Must have working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) legislation, the
Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Toronto Zoo Safety Policy.
Oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
Must be willing and able to obtain a Ride Mechanic In Training (RMIT) Passport under TSSA.
Must possess unrestricted Class G driver’s licence valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving
record.
