Position Overview:

To provide after-school care for preparatory school boys to service our parents outside of regular school hours.

Responsibilities:

Student Supervision:

  • Ensure that boys are under staff supervision at all times;
  • Supervise and monitor attendance; sign students in and out of the program;
  • Supervise and assist with homework completion; daily agenda checks;
  • Supervise students using various resources at different locations (Prep fields, Arena, Sport Court etc);
  • Supervise after-school snack;
  • Oversee the sign-out process.
Program Supervision:
  • Facilitate, organize and supervise after school clubs for small groups;
  • Supervise recreational club activities;
  • Supervise club programs such as cooking, art club, creative writing etc;
  • Supervise and facilitate contractor responsibilities.
Parent Communication:
  • Ensure parent communication; incident reports, student challenges;
  • Liaise with the ASP On-site Supervisor and ASP Coordinator about student and parental issues.
Student Wellbeing:
  • Encourage and model positive student interaction;
  • Promote a positive, engaging, happy environment for boys;
  • Encourage students in their pursuit of learning;
  • Care for young student needs and provide guidance.
Reception:
  • Welcome and offer assistance to all visitors who enter the reception area;
  • Direct telephone calls to the appropriate recipient.
Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
  • Work experience from other after school programs, camps, or daycares. Work experience in camp like setting providing supervision and instruction for boys clubs, and/or activities;
  • Interested in working with children in a fast-paced, energized environment;
  • Enrolled in or have completed a diploma or degree program such as Teaching or ECE would be an asset;
  • Lifeguarding or coaching qualifications/experience would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of UCC ASP work procedures including sign in/out responsibilities and daily UCC routines (facility use, faculty schedules, dismissal procedures etc);
  • Knowledge of CFL trained guidelines and methods;
  • School/college policies and standards for students;
  • Knowledge of recreational sports, varying club activities;
  • Knowledge of how to engage the boys in activities;
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, boys’ education;
  • Knowledge of the objectives of the programs at the ASP;
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve conflicts, scheduling issues, facility challenges, etc;
  • Ability to work with boys and keep them organized and reflecting behaviour of a respectful UCC boy;
  • Ability to organize and operate a club or activity for 8 weeks of programming;
  • Ability to identify potential areas of risk, and develop programs to mitigate the risk and redirect activity in more healthy directions;
  • Ability to identify and assess grounds related problems caused by weather, pests or other factors, and communicate them to the supervisor;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to plan and organize special event days and other activities;
  • Ability to establish good working relationships across the school / college and with fellow colleagues;
  • Ability to keep management apprised of issues and present proposed action recommendations.
